Nostalgia

The only certainty we have in life, besides death, is change. And yet it is precisely the factor we often fear the most.

In our lives, we are repeatedly faced with stepping stones that translate into milestones and turning points. For some, this occurs sporadically, for others continuously. Sometimes collectively, sometimes individually, and occasionally the two coincide.

The times where we must release from who we were to become a new version of ourselves. This, however, is a process, does not occur from one day to the other. It's a work in progress, with challenges along the way. Where patience, persistence and having the goal in mind is essential. Occasionally you might stop and catch yourself looking back and not remembering how it was to be who you once were. The results of the change are visible.

Think about phone booths... Not too long ago, they were widely used. I remember standing in line and waiting for my turn to call my parents using coins or calling "a cobrar" (not sure how the term in English goes but using a particular digit so that the receiver would pay the bill). During my stay in Brazil, I came across this relic on the street - an "orelhao" as we call them in Portuguese (translates into english as “big ear”).

Feelings of Nostalgia and memories of a time that belonged to the past came rushing. Nowadays, I don't remember when was the last time I used one of these. With the rapid development of technology, the new generations will only hear the stories being told about phone booths, without having seen a glimpse of it. The ones that lived the transition know how the process went. It wasn't from one day to the other that each individual owned a smartphone. It was an incremental process.

The same applies to us, as individuals. Step by step we adapt, we develop, we grow, we change. We let go of aspects that no longer serve us, to give room to the acquisition of new technologies. Up to the point that the only thing that remains of the past is solely a vague memory of what once was.
